Version Coding

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Mercedes-Benz C43, 1998 Mercedes-Benz C280, and 1998 Mercedes-Benz C230. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Version coding allows different settings to be programmed within A/C push-button control unit. Engine version is automatically transferred from the instrument cluster to the A/C push-button control unit by the serial interface (K1). All other version coding is done using manufacturer's Hand-Held Tester (HHT). When performing version coding follow HHT screen prompts and select desired settings. See A/C PUSH-BUTTON CONTROL UNIT VERSION CODING  table. For entering version code to A/C push-button control unit, perform procedures as follow:

  1. Turn ignition off.
  2. Press and hold the REST button.
  3. Turn ignition on.
  4. Release REST button. REST button LED indicator will flash, all other LEDs will be off. A/C push-button control unit will function as if in "O" (off) position. Display will indicate "- - P".
  5. Press the recirculation button to scroll through version codes to desired code.
  6. To enter desired version code press the EC button. Previous version code will be overwritten.
  7. Turn ignition off to return A/C push-button control unit to normal operation.
  8. Reset left and right temperature settings.
