Mixture Self-Adaptation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2000 Mercedes-Benz ML320, 2000 Mercedes-Benz E320, 2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK320, 2000 Mercedes-Benz C280, and 1999 Mercedes-Benz ML320. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The engine control system is capable of precisely regulating air/fuel mixture at a constant 14.7:1 under all engine operating conditions. If an air leak, injector wear, injector carbon build-up, engine wear, transition resistance in Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor, defective pressure regulator or defective purge control valve are present, the Engine Control Module (ECM) can automatically perform mixture adjustments.

The amount of correction is constantly calculated and permanently stored. Self-adaptation additive is performed at idle. Self-adaptation multiplicative is performed under partial load. Correction towards rich or lean is +/-1.0 milliseconds (injection duration) at idle or factor of .68-1.32 at partial load. After a repair, the ECM will automatically adapt again.
