Warranty Parktronic Sensor Repairs
SERVICE INFORMATION
An increased number of Parktronic (PTS) sensors are currently being replaced under warrant. The returned sensors display external damage at the impact absorber (painted part of sensor) caused by stones, parking mishaps, etc.
NOTE:
Should a fault code be stored in the Parktronic (PTS) control unit (N62) and such damage is evident, the sensor malfunction was clearly the result of external causes and cannot be reimbursed under warranty.
In cases where the following fault code texts appear together with external damage, warranty claims will be debited as of repair date July 3, 2003. The customer is responsible in such cases.
- A42b1 (Left outer sensor, front bumper): Sensor is defective
- A42b2 (Center left sensor, front bumper): Sensor is defective
- A42b3 (Left inner sensor, front bumper): Sensor is defective
- A42b4 (Right inner sensor, front bumper): Sensor is defective
- A42b5 (Center right sensor, front bumper): Sensor is defective
- A42b6 (Right outer sensor, front bumper): Sensor is defective
- A43b7 (Right outer sensor, rear bumper): Sensor is defective
- A43b8 (Right inner sensor, rear bumper): Sensor is defective
- A43b9 (Left inner sensor, rear bumper): Sensor is defective
- A43b10 (Left outer sensor, rear bumper): Sensor is defective
In cases where a complaint is reported and the following fault code text is registered, first check the connector and the line. If no fault is evident on the connector/line and the sensor shows external damage, the customer is responsible as of repair date July 3, 2003.
- A42b1 (Left outer sensor, front bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
- A42b2 (Center left sensor, front bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
- A42b3 (Left inner sensor, front bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
- A42b4 (Right inner sensor, front bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
- A42b5 (Center right sensor, front bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
- A42b6 (Right outer sensor, front bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
- A43b7 (Right outer sensor, rear bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
- A43b8 (Right inner sensor, rear bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
- A43b9 (Left inner sensor, rear bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
- A43b10 (Left outer sensor, rear bumper): The connector has bad contacts or is loose and/or the sensor or line is defective
NOTE:
Please perform a careful visual inspection of the sensors and read out the fault memory using STAR Diagnosis. Only replace those sensors that actually have faults stored in the fault memory.
