Instrument Cluster Replacement Procedure
SERVICE INFORMATION
Prior to replacing an Instrument Cluster, it is imperative to know which version Electronic Ignition Switch is installed in the vehicle. If the vehicle is equipped with Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS) part number 215 545 07 08 or later, follow directions outlined in DTB P-B-54.30/92 . If the vehicle is equipped with an earlier version Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS), then the Instrument Cluster must be ordered pre-programmed from the PDC specifying both the VIN and mileage.
Failure to follow the outlined procedure will result in all "00000" or "------" illuminated in the odometer's multifunction display after the installation of replacement Instrument Cluster part number 220 540 14 47 or later.
In order to determine which part number version Electronic Ignition Switch is installed in the vehicle perform the following:
- Ensure that the latest software update is installed into STAR Diagnosis.
- Using STAR Diagnosis enter into the following menus:
- Control Units -> Body -> Electronic Ignition Switch -> Control Unit Version.
- Record the Electronic Ignition Switch part number.
