The transmission overload protection protects the shift elements of the automatic transmission (722.6) from excessive thermal stress during load changes in the upper engine speed range.
Engine torque is reduced by briefly retarding the ignition and opening the recirculated air flap (reducing charge pressure) during gearshifts.
The ME control unit is supplied with a signal over the CAN databus by the ETC control unit for this purpose.
The ME control unit controls in line with the performance map whether alteration of the ignition angle is sufficient or if the air recirculation flap should be opened.
