Mixture Self-Adaptation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML320, 2002 Mercedes-Benz E320, 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK320, 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML320, and 2001 Mercedes-Benz E320. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The engine control system is capable of precisely regulating air/fuel mixture at a constant 14.7:1 under all engine operating conditions. If an air leak, injector wear, injector carbon build-up, engine wear, contact resistance in Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor, defective pressure regulator or defective purge control valve are present, the ME-SFI control module can automatically perform mixture adjustments.

The amount of correction is constantly calculated and permanently stored. Self-adaptation additive is performed at idle. Self-adaptation multiplicative is performed under partial load. Correction towards rich or lean is ±1.0 milliseconds (injection duration) at idle or factor of 0.68-1.32 at partial load. After a repair, the ME-SFI control module will automatically adapt again.
