Function

The engine can be started or switched off by actuating the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button (S2/3) on the selector lever.

Start engine

Function requirements

Function sequence

  1. Press KEYLESS-GO start/stop button (S2/3) on selector lever
  2. A wake-up signal is transmitted to the transmitter key via the KEYLESS go antennas (A2/31, A2/35, A2/38, A2/40) and the interior module KEYLESS-GO control unit (N103) A8/1
  3. Location finding signals are transmitted via the KEYLESS-GO antennas (A2/31, A2/35, A2/38, A2/40) and the interior module KEYLESS-GO control unit (N103).

IMPORTANT On vehicles as of 1.6.04, the antenna integrated into the interior module KEYLESS-GO control unit (N103) is replaced by the separate interior KEYLESS-GO antenna.

  4. The position data, the validity and the access authorization are transmitted via the KEYLESS-GO HF antenna cable end (Z87/15) to the rear module KEYLESS-GO control unit (N102).
  1. 6. Transmission of access authorization to the EIS control unit (N73) and to the electric steering lock control unit (N26/5).
  2. 7. If the checks were positive, circuit 15R and circuit 15 are switched on, if not already switched on, the steering lock unlocked and the engine started.

IMPORTANT Error messages occurring are displayed in the instrument cluster (A1).

Switch off engine

Function requirement

Function sequence

Actuate Keyless-Go start/stop button (S2/3) on selector lever.

Engine is switched off and circuit 15 R remains on.

IMPORTANT Error messages occurring are displayed in the instrument cluster (A1).

Additional circuit switching operations are given in the table below.

Warning messages

If, after starting the engine, the transmitter key (A8/1) can no longer be located in the interior compartment (system error or transmitter key (A8/1) not present), the instrument cluster (A1) outputs a warning message for approx. 5 s.

This is repeated every 5 km. After traveling > 20 km, a continuous warning message is output and an intermittent gong sounds.

Vehicles up to 31.5.07:

Next time the vehicle stops (v = 0 km/h) the engine is automatically switched on.

Vehicles as of 1.6.07

These warning messages are maintained until the driver switches off the engine (no automatic engine switch-off).

IMPORTANT In this case, it is not possible to start the engine on either version.
