Remove/install front bumper - AR88.20-P-2000R: Notes

MODEL 230.4 except CODE (P99) "AMG Black Series" special model

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
1 Loosen radiator grille IMPORTANT Unscrew only bolts at top of radiator grille. The radiator grille remains on the front bumper (1).

    Remove/install radiator grille AR88.40-P-4001R 
2 Unscrew bolts (2) at top of front bumper (1)    
3 Remove left front section of fender liner together with front engine compartment paneling and right fender liner section together with right front engine compartment paneling. IMPORTANT The front sections of the fender liner remain screwed to the corresponding front engine compartment paneling and are removed as one unit. Refer to: ↓  
    Remove/install fender liner in front fender AR88.10-P-1300R 
    Remove and install bottom engine compartment paneling AR61.20-P-1105R
4 Remove outside temperature indicator temperature sensor (B14) IMPORTANT Remove outside temperature indicator temperature sensor (B14) with electric wiring harness connected.

    Remove/install outside temperature indicator temperature sensor AR54.30-P-6341R
5 Unscrew bolt (3) from left and right clamping bracket (4).    
6 Pivot left and right clamping bracket (4) to center of vehicle (arrow), pull toward rear and remove.    
7 Disconnect electrical connector (6) from left front fog lamp (E5/1) and right front fog lamp (E5/2)    
8 Unlock and separate PTS front bumper connector (X26/27) On vehicles with code (220) Parktronic system (PTS)  
9 Release catch lugs on air inlet grille (7) with suitable screwdriver to left and right access opening (8) and pull air inlet grille (7) out of front bumper (1) until temperature sensor for outside temperature indicator temperature sensor (B14) is accessible On vehicles up to 28.2.06  
    NOTES Pull air inlet grille (7) out of front bumper (1) carefully to avoid damaging air inlet grille (7).  
10 Unscrew nut (9) on left and right from front bumper (1) IMPORTANT On vehicles as of 1.3.06 the nut (9) is accessible through the access opening in the cover frame of left front fog lamp (E5/1) or right front fog lamp (E5/2)  
11 Remove front bumper (1) toward front with aid of helper NOTES Carefully remove front bumper (1) with aid of helper to avoid damaging the paint work on the left and right front fenders and front bumper (1).
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Push front bumper (1) into left and right holders (5) at sides. Ensure that front bumper (1) is properly seated on the engine compartment paneling.
 
12 Install in the reverse order    
13 Check adjustment for left front fog lamp (E5/1) and right front fog lamp (E5/2), correct if necessary
