Moderately severe head-on collision

If a moderately severe head-on collision occurs, the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) registers moderate deceleration via the signals of the driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) and the passenger side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2) sent via a discrete line. In this type of impact the restraining function of the seat belts in combination with the buckle emergency tensioning retractors ensure the maximum degree of passenger safety.

The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) therefore sends an ignition pulse to:

Severe head-on collision

If a severe head-on collision occurs, the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) registers severe deceleration via the signals of the driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) and the passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2) sent via a discrete line. In this type of impact the airbag and seat belt system restraining functions in combination with the emergency tensioning retractors ensure the best possible degree of passenger safety. The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) therefore sends an ignition pulse to:

If also necessary because of the severity of the accident:

IMPORTANT If the WSS (Weight Sensing System) control unit (N2/13) detects that the front passenger seat is unoccupied or occupied by a child seat, the front passenger airbag is not triggered in principle.

If the driver seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/3) or the front passenger seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/4) detects that a seat belt has not been fastened, the driver or front passenger airbags are triggered instead of the relevant emergency tensioning retractor at a brought-forward point in time.
