The specified times are merely intended to illustrate the short duration of the sidebag inflation and deflation procedure.

Side impact collision

If the left sidebag and windowbag sensor (A53/1) or the right sidebag and windowbag sensor (A54/1) detects a side-impact collision, the relevant crash data are transmitted to the restraint systems control unit (N2/7).

The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) checks the plausibility of the signal and if appropriate actuates the sidebags and the window bags at the affected side of the vehicle.

If a side-impact collision occurs at the left side, the following components are actuated:

Left front sidebag squib (R12/20)
Left rear sidebag squib (R12/11) (except model 203.7)
Left rear windowbag squib (R12/22)

If a side-impact collision occurs at the right side, the following components are actuated:

Right front sidebag squib (R12/21)
Right rear sidebag squib (R12/12) (except model 203.7)
Right rear windowbag squib (R12/23)

The sidebag for the front passenger seat is only triggered if:

The seat belt buckle has been fastened
The front passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor (B48) has detected that the front passenger seat is occupied
