Navigation mode, function - GF82.85-P-2012TA

MODEL 211.0/2 up to 31.5.06 with CODE (527) COMAND APS (with navigation)

With the aid of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), the location of the vehicle and the direction and distance from the destination (after destination input) are determined by the navigation processor (N41/1). Then the required measures for reaching the destination are started (navigation).

Once the navigation system has been activated by the driver door being opened (in background), it is immediately operational after its initialization via the operating unit.

A multistandard drive is integrated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

After the "NAV" button is pressed, the message "Please insert navigation CD" appears in the navigation CD screen

IMPORTANT If an incorrect or legible CD, e.g., audio CD is inserted, an error message appears in the menu.

Destination entry

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) offers in navigation mode the following alternatives for destination entry:

These data are processed by the navigation processor (N41/1).

Predictive text input

When entering the destination the next possible letter is displayed and the relevant letter can then be accepted into the destination entry.

Dynamic supplementation

This function is realized with the manual entry of the destination. While entering a destination the letters which are still missing are completed from an existing list. The added characters are highlighted in black. Deletion is done by character. The following submenus are displayed in the "Special destinations" menu:

These submenus are subdivided still further.

The search radius is approx. 20 km, however, special categories, i.e. airports, have a larger search radius (approx. 80 km).

Position finding

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) continually calculates the location of the vehicle with the aid of the following methods:

The navigation processor (N41/1) calculates the most likely position by constantly comparing the location results of these 3 methods.

Route calculation

The route is calculated in the navigation processor (N41/1) after destination input or automatically after a deviation from the proposed route. With the dynamic navigation system, the route calculation is influenced by incorporating traffic information via an external provider by means of radio (TMC). The calculated route is stored in the navigation processor (N41/1).

Navigation starts once the navigation processor (N41/1) has carried out the route calculation.

3 types of display can be selected for graphic navigation:

The map display is always controlled from the operating unit.

The following display functions are supported:

It is possible to change arbitrarily between the types of presentation. In all instances the destination-oriented navigation is backed up by voice outputs over the vehicle speakers.

IMPORTANT If the CD drive is not used for navigation, it is also possible to play audio CDs or video DVDs.
