Switch on/off behavior, function - GF82.85-P-2006TU

MODEL 211.0/2 up to 30.6.06 with CODE (528) HIGH Class USA

ON/off characteristics

Navigation system activation

When the driver's door is opened, navigation is activated automatically via the interior CAN (CAN-B). This process lasts for approximately 2 seconds and may be accompanied by faintly audible noises from the DVD drive integrated in the navigation processor (N41/1). The display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) remains switched off.

If no status change occurs at the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) as a result, "circuit 15C or 15R ON", the navigation processor (N41/1) remains activated for 30 minutes. It then switches off automatically.

Activating the overall system

Position 1

Insert the transmitter key (A8/1) in the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73).

In position "circuit 15C ON" only the bus systems are activated for 3 minutes in order to ensure a more rapid switch-on process. If the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched on using the ON button (ON/OFF), automatic cutout occurs after 30 minutes.

Position 2

The device is switched on by turning the transmitter key (A8/1) into position 1 "circuit 15R ON" provided that it was switched on the last time before the transmitter key (A8/1) was removed.

The function options are restricted to:

Position 3

All the functions in the vehicle are operational by continuing to turn the transmitter key (A8/1) into position 2 "circuit 15 ON".

The system which was active before it was last switched off (e.g. radio) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed. If the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) was switched off for longer than 30 minutes, a warning menu with general information on the use of the system appears.

Position 4

The engine is started by rotating the transmitter key (A8/1) into position 3 "circuit 50 ON". If a considerable voltage drop occurs while starting the engine, the system switches off for this duration but switches back on again once the on-board electrical system has stabilized.

Characteristics when operating the ON/OFF button

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) can also be switched on by pressing the ON button (ON/OFF) when the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed. All MOST functions are then available for 30 minutes. The system switches off automatically once this time has elapsed. If the system has switched off after 30 minutes, the system can be switched on again by pressing the ON button. The cycle (30 minutes) then starts from the beginning.

On/Off characteristics via AUTO-ON

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) changes to the function status AUTO-ON, when it is "woken up" by a MOST participant (e.g. telephone call or SMS). In this case the function state, which the system was in before the wake up, is stored. After the end of the functions or user instructions initiated by the wake-up signal, the status applicable before the wake up signal is restored.

In the AUTO-ON function state the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) neither accepts display requests from other MOST participants, nor does it wake them. Switching off is effected either via the ON button (ON/OFF) or by removing the transmitter key (A8/1).

An active phone call is not interrupted by removing the transmitter key (A8/1). In this case the MOST (Media Oriented System Transport) switches off later automatically.

Switch off characteristics

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched off via the ON button or by removing the transmitter key (A8/1) - "Circuit 15C OFF" - via the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73).

After shutting down the MOST (Media Oriented System Transport, the 30-minute run-on time (standby mode) of the navigation system starts. During this period all the important locating parameters are stored. Furthermore, the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) and audio gateway control module (N93/1) are always in standby mode when interior CAN CAN-B) is active.

Switch off characteristics at undervoltage

The central computer of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) constantly monitors battery voltage. Depending on the voltage value the system will act as follows:

Battery voltage is 9.5 to 11.5 V (battery warning range)

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is automatically put into a defined standby condition, in which only the battery voltage continues to be monitored. In addition to this the current operating status is stored. In this condition the system cannot be operated or made to respond via STAR DIAGNOSIS. Communication with external components does not take place.

Switching on/off characteristics with code (889) Keyless Go

If the vehicle is started or stopped by pressing the Keyless Go switch (A12/1s3), this is identical to the switching on/off characteristics when starting up again with the transmitter key (A8/1) "circuit 15 ON/OFF".
