The purge control valve (Y58/1) is actuated by the motor electronics control unit, depending on operating condition of engine and on the vehicle load of the activated charcoal canister, at the ground end with a pulse width modulation signal (duty cycle 0 to 100 %).

The voltage supply is performed via circuit 87.

If purging is released, the purge control valve pulses audibly and perceptibly.

At the same time the passage for the purge line from the activated charcoal canister to the intake manifold (a b) is opened and closed.

In load mode as of approx. 1500 RPM, the check valve in the purge line prevents that the boost pressure reaches the purge control valve and also to the activated charcoal canister.

USA ONLY The purge control valve (Y58/1) is opened and closed for the leak test of the regeneration system. It also detects if the purge control valve jams in open condition.
