Function
When the oil level is low the lubricating oil which is constantly escaping from the gear set flows back through the opening into the oil chamber. If the oil level rises, the oil presses the float against the housing
The float thus separates the oil chamber from the gear set chamber. The lubricating oil which continues to escape from the gear sets is flung against the housing wall, is carried by the rotating parts and flows through the upper opening (arrow) into the oil gallery.
