Handling Navigation Module Becker MAP PILOT

Note the following on updating map data and software for the navigation module (A2/30) Becker® MAP PILOT.

  1. There are several software modules within the navigation module (A2/30) (Figure 1).

  2. Communication between the navigation module (A2/30) and the vehicle is through the interface software. The navigation function is implemented through the navigation software and the firmware. The map data required for navigation are filed on the internal device memory. An SD card with map data can be used for navigation. The map data stored on the SD card has a higher priority than the map data of the internal device memory. The map data cannot be transferred from the SD card to the internal device memory.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

The operator's manual is stored as a PDF file on the navigation module (A2/30). To view the operator's manual the module has to be connected through the USB interface to a PC. Alternatively, the operator's manual can also be downloaded at www.beckermappilot.com. The operator's manual is also available in printed form for ordering through the ODUS system.

This bulletin has been created and maintained in accordance with MBUSA-SLP S423QH001, Document and Data Control, and MBUSA-SLP S424HH001, Control of Records.

UPDATING INTERFACE VIA XENTRY DIAGNOSTICS

The interface software located on the navigation module (A2/30) can only be updated using Xentry Diagnostics over the CAN bus. As usual the software is automatically provided over Xentry Diagnostics and it can be updated through the Adaptations → Control unit programming menu item.

USING BECKER® CONTENT MANAGER

The navigation software, firmware and map data located on the navigation module (A2/30) can only be updated on the PC using the Becker® Content Manager. This is saved on the navigation module (A2/30) and can also be downloaded from www.beckermappilot.com.

To use the Becker® Content Manager, a commercially available PC running Microsoft® Windows®, an Internet connection, and approximately 10 GB of free memory are required. A Mac OS X version of the Becker® Content Manager is currently in the pipeline, and is expected to be available at the end of 09/2013. Administrator rights are required for installation and updating the Becker® Content Manager. Any issues with the Becker® Content Manager or problems which arise during the update procedure can be addressed to the Becker Hotline. Contact data is available at www.beckermappilot.com  along with FAQs.

UPDATING NAVIGATION SOFTWARE, FIRMWARE AND MAP DATA OVER THE BECKER® CONTENT MANAGER

The navigation software, firmware and map data can be updated over the Becker® Content Manager. This update can be conducted by the supporting dealer or by the customer. The update is free of charge.

The map data can also be updated through the Becker® Content Manager. The map data can be updated free of charge for up to 45 days after the in-service date for the navigation module (A2/30) in the vehicle. The customer is to be notified of this 45-day deadline when handing over a new vehicle. An extension of this 45-day deadline after the in-service date is not possible. If requested by the customer the update of the map data can be performed by the dealer. A cost settlement through warranty or goodwill is not possible. After expiration of the 45 day deadline map data updates can be downloaded subject to a fee from the Becker® Content Manager in the Webshop. A credit card is required here for payment purposes.

As an alternative to the map update subject to a fee through the Becker® Content Manager, Mercedes-Benz Accessories offers various national version map data on an SD card. Additional information is available in the ODUS system.

It should be noted that the inserted SD card is not recognized by the Becker® Content Manager. Therefore, when using the Becker® Content Manager, a message may appear - although the map data on the SD card is actually up-to-date - stating that the map data on the navigation module (A2/30) is obsolete.

The time required for an update of the navigation software, firmware or map data using the Becker® Content Manager may last for several hours. This is dependent on the required content and the bandwidth for the Internet connection. If several navigation modules (A2/30) are to be updated with the same content, it is not necessary to download the content onto the PC.
