Location
The shift detent is integrated in the ESM [EWM] control unit.
Task
To fix selector lever positions in position "R", "N" and "D".
Design
The shift detent consists of:
- The locking lever rigidly connected to the selector lever
- A leaf spring clamped in the basic body
- A roller inserted in the leaf spring
Function
When the selector lever is moved into one of the selector lever positions ("R", "N", "D") a roller engages in a recess above the cams. The selector lever is locked to prevent longitudinal movement. It can now only be moved out of the respective selector lever position against the force of a leaf spring.
Sideways movement into selector lever position "D" (touch shift in direction "+" and "-") is still possible. The selector lever is freely movable in this direction. Once the touch shift is complete a retracting spring presses the selector lever into the starting position.
