Location
The CDI control unit is built into the engine compartment at the left in front of the windshield.
Task
The CDI control unit controls the following systems according to the information received:
- Fuel supply
- Control of the glow system at engine start and during driving mode
- Fuel injection quantity control at engine start and during driving mode
- Emission control system
- Charge pressure control
- Shutoff of the refrigerant compressor (A9)
- Shutoff control
The CDI control unit reads the signals from the following components:
- Oil temperature sensor (B1)
- Left hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/6)
- Intake air temperature sensor (B2/6b1)
- Right hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/7)
- Intake air temperature sensor (B2/7b1)
- Rail pressure sensor (B4/6)
- Charge pressure sensor (B5/1)
- Camshaft Hall sensor (B6/1)
- Coolant temperature sensor (B11/4)
- Charge air temperature sensor (B17/8)
- Temperature sensor upstream of turbocharger (B19/11)
- Temperature sensor upstream of diesel particulate filter (B19/9) on vehicles with Code (474) Particulate filter
- Pressure sensor downstream of air filter (B28/5)
- Pressure differential sensor (DPF) (B28/8) on vehicles with Code (474) Particulate filter
- Accelerator pedal sensor (B37B37)
- Fuel temperature sensor (B50)
- Exhaust back pressure sensor (B60)
- Crankshaft Hall sensor (B70)
- O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2)
- Oil level indicator switch (S43)
The following sensors are built into the CDI control unit:
- Internal temperature sensor, for temperature of the control units
- Internal atmospheric pressure sensor, for altitude adaptation
The CDI control unit actuates the following components:
- O2 Sensor heater upstream of TWC [KAT]
- Throttle valve actuator (M16/6)
- Inlet port shutoff motor (M55)
- Circuit 15 relay, starter (N10/1kJ)
- Fuel pump relay (N10/2kS)
- Vent line heater element (R39/1)
- Left exhaust gas recirculation positioner (Y27/9)
- Pressure control valve (Y74)
- Boost pressure positioner (Y77/1)
- Fuel injector, cylinder 1 (Y76y1)
- Fuel injector, cylinder 2 (Y76y2)
- Fuel injector, cylinder 3 (Y76y3)
- Fuel injector, cylinder 4 (Y76y4)
- Fuel injector, cylinder 5 (Y76y5)
- Fuel injector, cylinder 6 (Y76y6)
- Quantity control valve (Y94)
Communication via the drive LIN (LIN C1) takes place via the following components:
- Alternator (G2)
- Glow time output stage (N14/3), control of various glow functions and transmission of system errors
The CDI control unit communicates with the following components via the central CAN:
- Instrument cluster (A1), output of fault messages via the multifunction display (A1p13), actuation of the engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58)
The CDI control unit communicates with the following components via the vehicle dynamics CAN:
- DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch (S16/13)
- ESP control unit (N47-5)
- EIS [EZS] control unit (N73N73)
- Steering column module (N80), cruise control via the CC [TPM] switch with (S40/4)
- Central gateway control unit (N93N93)
The CDI control unit is equipped with a fault memory, which can be read out via STAR DIAGNOSIS.
The CDI control unit communicates with the following components via the drive CAN:
- Fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (Y3/8n4) with transmission 722.9
- ETC [EGS] control unit (N15/3), with transmission 722.6
