COMMERCIAL VANS TECHNICAL TOPICS; APRIL 2016
Reference Number(s): TT 04/16-D, Date of Issue:
April 14, 2016
| SPRINTER: | MY16 FRITO-LAY 906 |
| GROUP: | 54.21 - Control unit / base module |
EXPLANATION
- Frito-Lay and PepsiCo regulate idle shutdown times through the PSM.
- For MY 2016 (253 units) the following has changed for idle shutdown:
- Time has changed to 30 seconds.
- Idle shutdown is active in park position independent of the parking brake, and in neutral position with parking brake applied.
- Idle shutdown is not active in neutral position with the service brake applied (foot on the brake pedal).
- Function of idle shutdown up to MY 2016:
- Idle shutdown occurred after 3 min.
- Idle shutdown is not active in park with the parking brake not applied.
- For MY 2016 (253 units) the following has changed for idle shutdown:
- One additional potential programming change is, limiting the speed in reverse to 6 MPH (this is currently undergoing final approval at Frito).
ACTION
Consider the following when working on a Sprinter with PSM with idle shutdown:
- To perform a manual regeneration, or other service operations requiring extended running times, a Service Bypass Mode is provided within the PSM programming.
- Perform the following to enter service bypass mode:
- Engine running
- Turn headlight switch to position 1, then parking lamp position AND then position the signal lever in the left turn position (Notice parking lights, not headlights on position 2)
NOTE:
Never SCN Code a PSM as this is never needed. If a PSM is SCN coded, the customer specific programming is removed.
