Update engine control unit software

Daimler AG ("DAG"), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain AMG GT-Class vehicles (190 platform), the ECU software may not be sufficiently robust, which may cause the vehicle to exceed non-methane organic gas (NMOG) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) limits.

Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:

Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 510 vehicles are involved.

This bulletin has been created and maintained in accordance with MBUSA-SLP S423QH001, Document and Data Control, and MBUSA-SLP S424HH001, Control of Quality Records.

NOTE:

Use DAS/Xentry 07/2018 with all associated patches or higher.
Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS/Xentry.
Connect battery charger (battery voltage >12.5V).
Ensure all electrical consumers are switched-off.

PROCEDURE

Update engine control unit software.
To do so, select menu item "Quick test view → N3/10-engine electronics → Adaptations → Control unit update → Update of control unit software".

Then follow the user guidance in XENTRY DIAGNOSTICS/DAS.

The following step applies to California dealers only.

Apply Proof of Correction Label (BQ 4 54 0039) to area identified in Figure 1. Fill in Campaign number: 2018090007, your dealer code, and the date of the repair, using a black permanent marker.

NOTE: Clean bonding surface prior to affixing label.

The following step applies to California dealers only.

Provide the owner with the completed and signed Proof of Correction Certificate (attached), after you scan a completed form and attach to the RO.
