Wear protective gloves and safety glasses

REMOVING Remove     
1 Partially lower side window of driver's door and cover opening with a clean cloth. NOTES
The side window of the driver door should remain open during the curing time.
Otherwise the windshield (1) can be pressed toward outside by the air when the doors are closed.
IMPORTANT A cloth in the opening of the side window ensures that dirt cannot penetrate through in the inside of the windshield (1).
 
2 Remove left drip rail and right drip rail.   AR88.80-P-4000LF
3 Mask off adjacent body components to windshield (1). Adhesive tape, air reservoir tensioning strap *BR00.45-Z-1113-02A 
4 Remove detachable parts in area of windshield (1).   AR67.10-P-1050LF 
5 Remove inside rearview mirror.   AR68.40-P-0001LF
6 Lower roof lining and slide fully towards rear. Model 222.1

NOTES
Roof lining must not come into contact with rear window.
Rear window will otherwise be damaged.

7 Secure electrical wiring harnesses (7) to roof with fabric tape.    
8 Cover instrument panel.    
9 Remove window airbag in area of windshield (1).   AR91.60-P-0693LF
10 Measure, note down gap dimensions (E) of upper splinter guard (2) at windshield (1) and remove upper splinter guard (2). IMPORTANT Observe number and position of washers.

11 Measure, note down gap dimensions of side splinter guards (4) and remove side splinter guards (4) at windshield (1). IMPORTANT Observe number and position of washers.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Use washers made from zinc-dipped steel.

12 Measure gap dimension between windshield (1) and outer left A-pillar and outer right A-pillar and note down values. IMPORTANT The new windshield (1) can be aligned in the body flange by using the determined gap dimensions.

13 Affix suitable tape (8) to A-pillar edge on left and right.    
14 Cut adhesive sealant (B) at top and sides. IMPORTANT Use commercially available oscillating saw as tool.  
15 Half open hood and secure against closing and/or further opening.    
16 Mask off A-pillar in connection area of heating wires (6) with fabric tape.    
17 Expose heating wires (6) and grind both ends down to bare metal. IMPORTANT In tower area of A-pillar.  
18 Attach suitable lifting equipment to windshield (1). IMPORTANT To remove windshield (1) suitable lifting device (crane, cup suction tool) and helper required.  
19 Release, disconnect electrical connector of windshield heater and attach electric line to windshield (1). Model 222.1/9 with code 597 (Heated windshield)

20 Connect heating wires (6) to external power source. NOTES Use insulated clamping devices.
Otherwise short circuits can occur when coming into the contact with the body.
IMPORTANT The heating duration is approx. 15 min. The windshield (1) must heat noticeably.
Formation of smoke required.
 
21 Switch on external power source. NOTES
Set external power source to 12.8 V and 30 A.
In the case of an incorrect setting, heating wires (6) will be destroyed.
IMPORTANT Use pulsed power supply unit as power source.
 
22 First lift off windshield (1) in upper area from body, then remove upwards. IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.  
23 Switch off external power source and remove from heating wires (6).    
24 Cut residual adhesive material.    
25 Remove windshield (1).    
MEASURING Measure     
26 Measure resistance of windshield heater in old and/or new windshield (1). Model 222.1/9
with code 597 (Heated windshield)
with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)
If measurement result lies outside tolerance range of 1.9 to 2.3 Ω

Replace old or new windshield (1).
 
  Preparatory tasks     
27 Prepare adhesive cartridge.   AR67.10-P-1000-07LFS 
    Repair kit for installing windshields, 1-component adhesive *BR00.45-Z-1135-02A 
28 Remove residual adhesive material from body and windshield (1). IMPORTANT Leave all rubber spacers on body flange.  
29 Insert and align windshield (1) as a test installation. IMPORTANT Use previously determined gap dimensions and heights as a reference value.
IMPORTANT Use suitable lifting equipment (crane, vacuum lifter) to insert, align and lift windshield (1). Helper required!

INSTALLING Install     
32 Fold back protective foil on inside of windshield (1) in lower area to halfway and fix in place with fabric tape. Where a new windshield (1) is used.
IMPORTANT Lower area of windshield (1) is no longer accessible after installation.
 
33 Install windshield (1) and align with tape strips. NOTES
The windshield (1) must be free of dust and grease.
Otherwise adhesion problems can occur between the windshield (1) and the lifting device.
IMPORTANT Use suitable lifting equipment (crane, vacuum lifter) to insert, align and lift windshield (1). Helper required!
 
34 Connect heating wires (6) to external power source, switch on power source and heat butyl rope. NOTES
Use insulated clamping devices.
Otherwise short circuits can occur when coming into the contact with the body.
IMPORTANT Use pulsed power supply unit as power source.
IMPORTANT The heating duration is approx. 5 min, correct, where req., seat of windshield (1).
 
35 Apply adhesive sealant (B) between windshield (1) and body flange.   AR67.10-P-1000-08LFS 
    IMPORTANT The curing time is approx. 1 h.  
    Repair kit for installing windshields, 1-component adhesive *BR00.45-Z-1180-02A 
36 Align side splinter guards (4) and upper splinter guard (2) and install. NOTES
Distance between side splinter guards (4) and upper splinter guard (2) should not be too large.
Vehicle armoring will otherwise be impaired.
NOTES
The side splinter guard (4) and upper splinter guard (2) should not lay directly on the windshield (1).
Otherwise the easily scratched coating on the windshield (1) can be damaged.
IMPORTANT Observe number and position of washers.
IMPORTANT Do not yet tighten screws to specified torque.
 
    HAND-HELD TESTER Distance between guard plate at side/top to windshield *BE67.10-P-1002-01E 
37 Lay ends of heating wires (6) between A-pillar and windshield (1). IMPORTANT Do not cut off heating wires (6).  
38 Cover ends of heating wires (6) with suitable adhesive strips.    
39 Install left drip rail and right drip rail.   AR88.80-P-4000LF
40 Tighten screws of side splinter guards (4). NOTES
The adhesive and butyl cord must be sufficiently cured before the side splinter guard plates (4) can be installed.
Side splinter guards (4) will otherwise become stuck.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, A-pillar guard plate, windshield to body shell *BA63.20-P-1004-01D 
41 Tighten screws of upper splinter guard (2). NOTES
The adhesive and butyl cord must be sufficiently cured before the upper splinter guard plate (2) can be installed.
Upper splinter guard (2) will otherwise become stuck.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, roof frame guard plate to body shell *BA63.20-P-1001-01D 
42 Mount window airbag in area of windshield (1).   AR91.60-P-0693LF
43 Install headliner. Model 222.1

46 Perform function check of all electrical consumers in repair area.    
47 Calibrate mono multifunction camera (A40/11) or stereo multifunction camera (A40/13).   AR54.21-P-3000LF
