Tune-Up Notes: Notes
- 410" 4-BBL. ENGINE COLD STALL ON AUTO. TRANS. ENGAGEMENT CORRECTION: May be caused by choke pullrod binding in airhorn (washers not sliding in retainer or automatic choke not properly adjusted). To correct, spread retaining clip on washers to provide free sliding, set automatic choke at three rich, and check fast and slow idle speeds.
- 289" ENGINE STUMBLE OR DRIVEABILITY PROBLEM CORRECTION: Be sure carburetor float level is 1 3/32". On Synchro-mesh cars, if float level is correct and problem still exists, reset timing to 3° BTDC. On Auto. Trans. cars if problem still exists, remove all shims from distributor vacuum advance unit.
- 390" 2-BBL. ENGINE HESITATION OR STUMBLE ON ACCELERATION CORRECTION: If normal tune-up procedures do not correct problem, check carburetor fuel level (set to 3/4"), and reposition accelerator pump rod to No. 4 (top) hole. If problem still exists, see "Ford 2 & 4-Barrel" in Carburetor Section.
- 1966 289" HI PERF. ENGINE EXCESSIVE VALVE LASH & ERRATIC VALVE ADJUSTMENT CORRECTION: May be caused by worn valve rocker arm adjusting nuts. To correct, install cadmium plated nuts, Part No. C2DZ-6A529-A.
- 1966 390", 410", & 428" V8 ENGINES STALLING ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ENGAGEMENT: See "Ford 2 & 4-Bbl. Carburetors" .
- 1966 390", 470", & 428" V8 ENGINES AIR CLEANER NOT SEATING ON CARBURETOR FLANGE CORRECTION: See "Ford 2 & 4-Bbl. Carburetors" .
- 1966 289" ENGINE ROUGH IDLE CORRECTION: On cars built after January 1; 1966, this condition may be caused by a defective crankcase ventilator valve. To correct, replace valve.
- 1966 PREMATURE IGNITION POINT OR IGNITION COIL FAILURE: Check voltage in resistance circuit by connecting a voltmeter between ignition terminal of ignition switch and coil, with all accessories and lights off. Voltage reading must be 4.5-6.6 volts. If not within specifications, replace resistance wire.
- 1966 FLICKERING OR INOPERATIVE HEADLAMP CORRECTION: This condition may be caused by the headlamp dimmer switch installed upside down. Make sure multiple connector is located on topside, and secured to switch,
- 390" ENGINE BACKFIRE, LOW MANIFOLD VACUUM, POOR IDLE, POOR PERFORMANCE CORRECTION:
If normal tune-up procedures do not correct problem, exhaust manifold ports on left side may be blocked. To correct, remove exhaust manifold casting flash restricting ports.Spark Plug Type
