Cylinder Identification (CID) Sensor

CID sensor detects cylinder No. 1 when it reaches Top Dead Center (TDC) and signals the PCM to control fuel injection. CID sensor is located inside the distributor. On 1.8L, a slotted disc rotates with the distributor shaft and passes through the CID photo sensor. As the slot passes through the sensor, TDC compression stroke of cylinder No. 1 is indicated to the PCM. This signal affects injector timing.

On 2.0L A/T and 2.5L, a single vane rotor rotates with the distributor shaft and passes through a magnetic Hall Effect switch. As the slot passes through the sensor, TDC compression stroke of cylinderNo. 1 is indicated to the PCM. This signal affects injector timing.
