Ignition Systems: Distributor: Installation

  1. If engine is rotated during distributor removal, rotate engine until No. 1 piston is at TDC on compression stroke.
  2. NOTE: During installation of distributor, rotor will tend to shift when gears mesh.
  3. Install distributor. Make sure to engage distributor drive gear into camshaft drive gear. Ensure that rotor aligns with mark made on engine compartment during removal.
  4. Install distributor bolt finger-tight. See Fig 6 .
  5. Install distributor electrical connector onto bracket. See Fig 3 .
  6. Connect distributor electrical connector. See Fig 2 .
  7. Connect distributor ground connector to tab on distributor housing. See Fig 1 .
  8. Position distributor cap and spark plug wires onto distributor.
  9. Tighten distributor cap screws.
  10. Install distributor cover.
  11. Connect negative battery cable.
  12. Adjust ignition timing. See 1993 ENGINE PERFORMANCE FORD MOTOR CO. - ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS. .
  13. Tighten distributor bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
