Ignition Systems: Distributor: Installation
- If engine is rotated during distributor removal, rotate engine until No. 1 piston is at TDC on compression stroke.
- Install distributor. Make sure to engage distributor drive gear into camshaft drive gear. Ensure that rotor aligns with mark made on engine compartment during removal.
- Install distributor bolt finger-tight. See Fig 6 .
- Install distributor electrical connector onto bracket. See Fig 3 .
- Connect distributor electrical connector. See Fig 2 .
- Connect distributor ground connector to tab on distributor housing. See Fig 1 .
- Position distributor cap and spark plug wires onto distributor.
- Tighten distributor cap screws.
- Install distributor cover.
- Connect negative battery cable.
- Adjust ignition timing. See 1993 ENGINE PERFORMANCE FORD MOTOR CO. - ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS. .
- Tighten distributor bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
NOTE:
During installation of distributor, rotor will tend to shift when gears mesh.
