Ignition Systems: Distributor: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove distributor cover.
  3. Loosen three distributor cap screws and set cap and spark plug wires aside.
  4. Disconnect distributor ground connector from tab on distributor housing. See Figure .
  5. Disconnect distributor electrical connector. See Figure .
  6. Remove distributor electrical connector from bracket. See Figure .
  7. Rotate engine until No. 1 piston is at TDC on compression stroke. Check to be sure timing mark (yellow) on crankshaft pulley and timing pointer on lower timing belt cover are aligned. See Figure .
  8. Note relation of rotor to engine. Make a mark on an engine component to assist with installation. See Figure .
  9. Remove distributor bolt, see Figure . Remove distributor.
