Oil Level Indicator Test

  1. Turn ignition OFF. Remove Low Oil Level Indicator bulb and check for continuity across bulb.
  2. Check resistance at oil level sensor. Disconnect sensor connector on oil pan. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms with oil drained, and more than 10K ohms when oil level is above MIN mark on dipstick. If resistance is not a specified, replace sensor.
  3. Remove instrument cluster. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C2. Disconnect low oil level relay connector behind glove box. Measure resistance of Black/Yellow wire between instrument cluster connector and relay connector. Measure resistance of Black/Yellow wire between instrument cluster connector and ground. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms between connectors, and more than 10K ohms from instrument cluster connector and ground. If resistance is not a specified, repair Black/Yellow wire.
  4. Reconnect connector at instrument cluster. Disconnect connector at oil level relay. Jumper Black/Yellow wire to ground. Turn ignition key ON. If Low Oil Level Indicator illuminates, go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate, replace instrument cluster.
  5. Turn ignition OFF. Disconnect low oil level relay connector. Turn ignition ON. Measure voltage on Gray/Blue wire at low oil level relay connector. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Gray/Blue wire between relay and interior fuse panel.
  6. Turn ignition OFF. Disconnect low oil level relay connector. Measure resistance between Black wire at connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance in not less than 5 ohms, repair Black wire.
  7. Disconnect negative batter terminal. Disconnect low oil level relay connector. Turn ignition to START. Measure resistance between Light Green/Black wire from the low oil level relay connector and ground. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms with the ignition key in the START position. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, diagnose ignition switch.
  8. Turn ignition OFF. Disconnect low oil level relay and sensor connectors. Measure resistance of Black/Red wire between low oil level relay connector and sensor connector. Measure resistance of Black/Red wire between low oil level relay connector and ground. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms between connectors, and more than 10K ohms from low oil level relay connector and ground. If resistance is as specified, replace low oil level relay. If resistance is not as specified, repair Black/Red wire.
