Final Reassembly
- Install low/reverse clutch plates, dish plate, pressure plate and snap ring. See Fig 1
. Using feeler gauge, measure clearance between bottom steel clutch plate and transaxle case. Clearance should be .067-.083" (1.7-2.1 mm).
- If clearance is not within specification, select proper thickness pressure plate. Pressure plates range in thickness from .079" (2.0 mm) to .134" (3.4 mm) in .20 mm increments.
- Install forward clutch hub lower thrust washer into transaxle case with black side of washer facing upward. Install forward clutch assembly. Install forward clutch hub upper thrust washer. Install coasting clutch upper thrust washer on coasting clutch hub. Install coasting clutch hub. See Figure
.
- Before installing forward clutch hub/ring gear, ensure sprag is correctly installed. While holding forward clutch hub, ring gear (facing upward) should only rotate clockwise. Install forward clutch hub and ring gear assembly into transaxle case. Ensure thrust washer tabs are protruding through holes in forward clutch hub.
- Place lower thrust bearing on outside of rear planetary gear. Place rear sun gear thrust bearing inside rear planetary gear. Install rear sun gear in rear planetary gear. Install assembly in transaxle.
- Install sun gear front thrust bearing with black side of bearing facing upward. Install front planetary gear. Install low/reverse clutch piston spring retainer. Install low/reverse clutch piston into transaxle case. Ensure single tang of outer piston is centered in middle of double tang of inner piston.
- Push down piston and retainer assembly and install snap ring (appropriate spring compressor may be necessary). Install low one-way clutch into front planetary gear. Rotate one-way clutch clockwise to aid installation. Install snap ring. Install primary sun gear lower thrust washer onto front planetary gear.
- Install 3-4 clutch hub with primary sun gear upper thrust washer, primary sun gear and bearing race into transaxle case. See Figure
. Install 3-4 clutch hub bearing and input shaft upper thrust washer onto 3-4 clutch drum and input shaft assembly.
- Install reverse clutch assembly onto 3-4 clutch assembly and install into transaxle case. Adjust total end play and reverse clutch drum end play.
