Engine Front Cover: Removal

  1. Remove the left and right valve covers. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER LH  and VALVE COVER RH .
  2. Remove the cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  3. Remove the water pump pulley.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    2. Remove the water pump pulley.

  4. Remove the crankshaft front seal. For additional information, refer to CRANKSHAFT FRONT SEAL .
  5. Remove the bolts and position the power steering pump aside.

  6. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  7. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers from the A/C compressor.

  8. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.

  9. Remove the A/C compressor and position aside.
  10. Remove the nut and the bracket.

  11. Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil.

  12. Remove the four front bolts.

  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Remove the belt idler pulleys.

  15. Remove the bolts and the studs, and the engine front cover.

  16. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
  17. Remove and discard the gasket, clean and inspect the sealing surfaces.
