    WARNING: Before servicing a vehicle equipped with a fire suppression system, depower the system by following the procedure in FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM article. Failure to follow the instructions may result in serious personal injury.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information refer to JACKING & LIFTING article.
  2. Release the fuel pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  3. Remove the hood.
  4. Disconnect both battery cables. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING & CABLES article.
  5. Remove the air cleaner and outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING article.
  6. Remove the wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft. For additional information, refer to WIPERS & WASHERS article.
  7. Remove the 2 nuts and the support bracket.

  9. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE article.
  10. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  11. Disconnect the vacuum hose.

  13. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve.
    • Disconnect the 2 quick release EVAP hoses.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  15. Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  16. Detach the generator battery cable retainer from the RH valve cover stud bolt.

  18. Remove the nut and disconnect the generator battery cable.
    • Detach the generator battery cable pin-type retainer.

  20. Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors.

  22. Remove the bolt and ground wire.

  24. Disconnect the A/C electrical connector.

  28. Disconnect the heater hoses.

  30. Remove the bolt and the ground strap.

  32. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the hose connection. Secure the hose to the radiator assembly.

  34. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the oil filter adapter.

  36. Remove the cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  37. Drain the engine oil.
    • Install the drain plug when finished.
    • To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).

  39. Remove and discard the oil filter.
  40. If equipped, disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
  41. Disconnect the power steering electrical connector.

  43. Disconnect the Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) switch electrical connector.

  45. Disconnect the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.

    NOTE: The oil cooler must be replaced or severe damage to the engine can occur.
  47. If equipped, remove and discard the oil cooler. For additional information, refer to Oil Cooler .
  48. Remove the nut and the transmission cooler tube support bracket.

  50. Remove the transmission oil cooler tube bracket bolt.

  52. Disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
  53. Position the power steering tube bracket aside.

  55. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers from the A/C compressor.

  59. Remove the 3 bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.

  63. Remove the starter motor. For additional information, refer to STARTING SYSTEM article.
  64. Disconnect the RH Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connectors.

  66. Disconnect the LH HO2S electrical connector.

    NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the sensor threads with penetrating and lock lubricant to assist in removal.
  68. Using the Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor Socket, remove the LH HO2S.

  70. Support the exhaust and remove the 4 nuts.
    • Discard the 4 nuts.

  74. Install a suitable lifting device under the transmission and support.
  75. Remove the rear transmission insulator nuts.

  77. Raise the transmission and remove the rear transmission insulator bolts.

  79. Remove the transmission rear insulator and lower the transmission down to rest on the rear crossmember.
  80. Disconnect the HO2S sensor and the solenoid body sensor electrical connectors.

  82. Disconnect the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor, Transmission Range (TR) sensor and the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor electrical connectors.

  84. Release the wiring harness from the retainers on the transmission.
  85. Remove the 3 bolts and the inspection cover.

    • Remove the 4 nuts.
