Shorted Windings Test
- Disconnect ignition coil wiring. Connect ammeter between coil connector positive terminal and coil positive terminal. Connect a jumper wire between coil negative terminal and engine ground.
- Place ignition switch in "RUN" position and note reading on ammeter. Current draw should be about 6.5 volts. If reading is higher, coil windings are shorted. Replace ignition coil.
