  2. Harness sealing

    This modification introduces a barrier of sealing material into the harness to prevent water running down the harness into the BC1 connectors.

    On some vehicles, sealing material has already been applied to the harness by the manufacturer. On other vehicles no sealing material has been applied. Therefore, after initial dismantling, two procedures follow:

    • Locate the two connectors from the top of the BC1

    Starting with one harness, remove the protective tape for a length of 4-3/4 inch (120 mm) away from the BC1 connector.

    If no sealing material is present in the exposed harness, follow procedure 1. If sealing material is present, refer to procedure 2.

    NOTE: if sealing material is already present it may not be possible to completely remove the protective tape which is attached to the sealing material. This is acceptable.

    Procedure 1: (no sealing material installed)

    • Group the Wires into three equal bunches and spread the wires from the first bunch so that the wires lie along side each other.
    • Take a strip of sealing material (see Parts Information), remove the protective paper from one side of the strip and apply the strip lengthwise onto the wires with the center of the strip positioned 2 3/8 inch (60 mm) away from the BC1 connector (A).

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 5. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (MD 20-013) and:

  1. emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
  2. punch out code number 5 printed on the label and,
  3. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
    Fig 41: Service Action Label
    G04172253

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
