Control Arm Brackets: Installation

CAUTION:
If the position of the rubber mount is not strictly adhered to, it will impair vehicle handling and cause early rubber mount wear. Outer edge (B) of rubber mount must be flush with marked measurement (A). See Fig 1
.
- Coat control arm pin and rubber mount bushing with low-surface-tension water. Mix one part soap to 20 parts water.
- Ensure positive locking (1) of bushing and control arm pin. See Fig 2 . Larger diameters of bores (2) point to engine support.
- Attach Special Tool (31 2 153) with extensions (1) from puller set to control arm opening. Install new bracket on control arm up to applied marking with Special Tools (00 7 500) and (31 2 152/154/157). See Fig 3 .
- Relieve tension on special tool. Check position of rubber mount to marking (measurement A) and correct if necessary.
- Damaged threads on engine mounts can be repaired with Helicoil M12 x 1.5 threaded inserts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install reinforcement plate. See REINFORCEMENT PLATE .
- After installation, check freedom of movement of other components to control arm bracket.
