Front Axle (With Spring Struts): Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 17 other vehicles, including the 2008 BMW 760Li, 2007 BMW 760Li, 2006 BMW 760i, 2006 BMW 760Li, and 2005 BMW 760i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise front axle into place. Tighten down both front screws (1) first. See Fig 1 . If threads are damaged, they may be repaired with Helicoil thread inserts. Install inserts so they are flush with original thread. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Attach spring struts on left and right to wheel arch.
  3. Install nut on holder.
  4. Attach all pressure lines. Replace sealing rings (D). See Figure . Tighten nut on holder to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Connect line to ride level sensor.
  6. Ensure steering gear is in straight ahead position. Markings on cap (1) and housing (2) must match up. See Fig 2 . Install universal joint to steering gear. Replace and tighten clamping screw to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Release steering lock and turn steering wheel left and right to full lock. Airbag warning lamp must not light up.
  8. Connect ABS pulse sensor.
  9. Install engine underguard and reinforcement plate. Tighten screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  10. Install brake calipers.
  11. Check stabilizer bar mounting. Replace if necessary. Install stabilizer link on spring strut, replace self-locking nut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  12. Install air routing boxes on left and right.
  13. Install engine mount screw connection.
  14. Remove engine support.
  15. Remove special tools holding hood and install gas spring struts.
  16. Bleed power steering. See appropriate POWER STEERING article in STEERING.
