Instrument Panel Lower Trim: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 BMW 745i, 2004 BMW 745Li, 2003 BMW 745i, 2003 BMW 745Li, and 2002 BMW 745i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. To Install, reverse removal procedure. Slide guide (1) of steering column panel into mounting (2). See Fig 1 .
  2. Tighten panel screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. When installing wood trim on left, replace damaged or missing shaft (1), speed nut (2) or stud (3). See Fig 2 .
  4. Replace damaged Hutfix clips (1). Turn clip (1) with screwdriver to left approximately 60°. Lever out clip (1) from below. Insert new clip (1) from above and snap into place at bottom. Turn clip with screwdriver to right approximately 60°. See Fig 3 .
  5. Tighten wood trim nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Make sure retainers (3) for center instrument panel trim engage correctly in openings (4). See Figure .
    7. NOTE: No Hutfix clip is fitted in mounting (2). See Fig 4 .
  7. When installing wood trim on right, replace damaged Hutfix clips (1). Turn clip (1) with screwdriver to left approximately 60°. Lever out clip (1) from below. Insert new clip (1) from above and snap into place at bottom. Turn clip with screwdriver to right approximately 60°. See Fig 3 .
  8. Install wood trim nut (1). See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  9. When installing center wood trim on instrument panel, do not damage wood trims. Snap detent lugs (1) on left and right into place with special tool (00 9 341). See Fig 5 .
  10. Install clip holder (1) into mounting (2). See Fig 6 .
  11. Insert instrument cluster trim (3) in mounting (2) of instrument cluster (1). See Fig 7 .
  12. Insert spring washers (2) with dome facing screw head. See Figure .
  13. When installing center fresh air grill, ensure electric leads are correctly routed.
  14. Install control display trim (2) in mounting of control display (1). Do not damage wood trim on right. If necessary, snap locks of trim (2) into place with special tool (00 9 341). See Fig 8 .
  15. Install fresh air grill. Catches must not be damaged. Make sure fresh air grill is correctly seated on fresh air duct behind.
