Cruise Control Systems: Description
Cruise control system is electrically operated and vacuum actuated. It consists of a cruise control unit, cruise control switch, actuator, speed sensor, vacuum pump or reservoir, vacuum lines and electrical wiring. The system detects vehicle speed through reed switch signals of speed sensor built into control switch.
Speed is stored in electronic control unit when control switch is activated in "SET" position. Changes in vehicle speed after switch is released are compared with vehicle speed to control the throttle opening through the actuator, so that set vehicle speed will be maintained at all times. The system includes a vacuum pump to ensure set vehicle speed remains stable when engine vacuum falls.
