Cruise Control Systems: Operation

The speed control switch is stalk-mounted on right side of steering column. The switch has 3 positions that are obtained by turning the end of the switch ("OFF", "ON" and "RESUME") and 1 position ("SET") that is obtained by depressing the button at the end of the switch. In the "ON" position, current flows to the system, and both system and indicator light are energized. When switch is in "OFF" position, cruise control is cancelled.

The "SET" position sets cruise control by outputting signal to self-holding circuit and memory circuits. It may also be used to reduce or slightly increase vehicle speed.

Holding switch in "RESUME" position when system is activated slowly increases vehicle speed. Releasing switch will set new speed in memory. After cancellation of any set speed, momentary holding of switch in "RESUME" will transmit signal to self-holding circuit to resume speed previously cancelled.
