Road Test
- Before road testing, be certain fluid level, fluid condition and control linkage adjustments have been checked and corrected as necessary. During test, transaxle should upshift and downshift at about the same speeds as shown in SHIFT SPEEDS TABLE . All shifts may vary slightly due to production tolerances or tire size. What is important is shift quality. All shifts should be smooth, responsive and with no slippage or engine speed runaway.
- Slippage or engine runaway in any gear usually indicates clutch or band problems. A slipping clutch or band in a particular gear can usually be identified by noting transaxle operation in other selector positions and comparing internal units which are applied in these positions. See CLUTCH & BAND APPLICATION TABLE (ELEMENTS IN USE) .
- The procedures given can be used to detect any unit which slips and to confirm proper operation of good units. More testing is needed if actual cause of malfunction cannot be easily decided.
- Practically any condition can be caused by leaking hydraulic circuits or sticking valves. Unless an obvious condition exists, transaxle should never be disassembled until hydraulic pressure tests have been made.
