Accelerator Cable

  1. Turn air conditioner and lights OFF. Inspect and adjust at no load. Confirm that automatic speed control cable is not over tightened.
  2. Warm engine until stabilized at idle. Confirm idle speed is at prescribed RPM.
  3. Stop engine (ignition switch OFF). Confirm there are no sharp bends in accelerator cable. Check inner cable for correct slack. If there is too much slack or no slack, adjust play.
    • Loosen lock nut and adjusting nut of accelerator cable once to free the cable. See Fig 1 . Pulling accelerator outer cable in the arrow direction, lock the outer cable with the adjusting nut just before the throttle lever begins to move. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
    • Back off the adjusting nut 3 turns and lock the lock nut.
NOTE: If there is excessive play of the accelerator cables, the vehicle speed drop "undershoot" when climbing a slope will be large. If there is no play (excessive tension) of the accelerator cables, the idling speed will increase.
  4. After adjusting, confirm that the throttle lever fully opens and closes by operating the pedal. Adjust accelerator cable play and confirm throttle lever stopper touches idle switch. See Fig 2 .
