I/M DYNAMOMETER TESTING ON TCL MODELS

PURPOSE

NOTE: If traction control (TCL) is applied while the vehicle is running on a dynamometer during emissions testing, DTC's will set in the PCM. To prevent this condition during I/M testing, temporarily disable the TCL-ABS system. When the TCL system is disabled, the TCL and ABS indicator lights will come on, but no DTC's will set.

This bulletin details how to temporarily disable the TCL system during I/M testing. On most TCL-equipped models, the TCL/ABS system is temporarily disabled by removing a particular fuse. On Diamante models, the TCL is temporarily disabled by pressing the TCL button.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1999-2004 Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, and Galant V6 models equipped with TCL

1996-2004 Diamante models equipped with TCL

2003-2004 Montero models equipped with TCL

2004-05 Endeavor models equipped with TCL

PROCEDURE

ECLIPSE / ECLIPSE SPYDER / GALANT: Refer to Group 90 in the appropriate service manual for the exact fuse location, which differs depending upon the model and model year.
1. On 1999-2001 Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, and Galant models, remove the 10 amp fuse in the #9 position, located in the fuse box in the junction block.
2. On 2002 Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, and Galant models, remove the 10 amp fuse in the #12 position, located in the fuse box in the junction block.

3. On 2003 Galant models, remove fuse #9.
4. On 2003 and 2004 Eclipse and Eclipse Spyders, remove fuse #13.
5. On 2004-05 Galant models, remove fuse #23 located in the fuse box in the junction block.
When I/M testing is complete, be sure to reinstall the fuse.
On Montero models, remove the red 10 amp fuse in the #5 position. When I/M testing is complete, be sure to reinstall the fuse.

On Endeavor models, remove fuse #13, located in the fuse box in the junction block.
When I/M testing is complete, be sure to reinstall the fuse.

On Diamante models, the TCL is disabled by pressing the OFF portion of the TCL switch The "TCL OFF" light should illuminate to indicate that the TCL is turned off.
