Test N-5: Engine Does Not Crank
- Check input signal from key reminder switch. See INPUT SIGNAL CHECK FUNCTION
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If input signal test shows a fault, check key reminder switch circuit. See TEST O-3: KEY REMINDER SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK
under CIRCUIT TESTS. If input signal test is okay, go to next step.
- Remove anti-theft starter relay. See Figure
. Check continuity between anti-theft starter relay terminals No. 1 and 3. Check continuity between anti-theft starter relay terminals No. 2 and 4. See Fig 1
. Continuity should exist between each pair of terminals. Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage to anti-theft starter relay terminal No. 1 and ground anti-theft starter relay terminal No. 3. With relay energized, check continuity between anti-theft starter relay terminals No. 2 and 5. Continuity should exist. With power source removed, continuity should not exist between terminals No. 2 and 5. If relay does not test as specified, replace anti-theft starter relay. If relay tests as specified, go to next step.
- Check anti-theft starter relay connector and ETACS-ECU 20-pin connector C-112 for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Check for open in Blue/Orange wire between anti-theft starter relay connector terminal No. 3 and ETACS-ECU connector C-112 terminal No. 37. See Figure
and Fig 1
. If problem exists, repair connector or Blue/Orange wire as necessary and retest starter. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Check key reminder switch 7-pin connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Check for open in Blue/Red wire between anti-theft starter relay connector terminal No. 1, key reminder switch connector terminal No. 6 and ETACS-ECU connector C-111 terminal No. 48. See Figure

and Fig 1
. If problem exists, repair connector or Blue/Red wire as necessary and retest starter. If problem does not exist, check starting system. See
