Bleeding Brake System: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mitsubishi Montero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use only brake fluid DOT3 or DOT4. Never mix specified brake fluid with any other brake fluid, as it will significantly decrease braking performance. When adding brake fluid, ensure filter is properly fitted on reserve tank. Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled on painted surface, wipe it off immediately and wash with water.
CAUTION: During bleeding operations, depress brake pedal slowly. If brake pedal is pressed rapidly, hydraulic pump motor will operate and discharge brake fluid at a high pressure and volume, depleting HBB reservoir contents and possibly introducing air into the HBB system.
NOTE: Depending upon quantity of brake fluid in the reservoir, if brake pedal is pressed with the reservoir cap removed, brake fluid in the reservoir may overflow. Use suitable protection to prevent brake fluid from contacting underhood components and body paint.
