Tire Pressure Sensor Registration
WARNING:
Death or serious injury can occur if magnetically sensitive devices are exposed to the retraining magnet used for this TPMS procedure. Magnets can affect pacemakers.
NOTE:
If a TPM system tire pressure sensor, receiver, antenna or feeder cable(s) is replaced, the tire pressure sensors must be registered.
The following tools are used for this TPMS procedure:
- TPMS Magnet (MIT46716) or a strong magnet
- Scan Tool (MUT-III Sub Assembly) (MB991958)
- Vehicle Communication Interface (V.C.I.) (MB991824)
- MUT-III USB Cable (MB991827)
- MUT-III Main Harness A (MB991910)
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to Scan Tool (MB991958), always turn ignition switch to OFF position before connecting or disconnecting.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Fig 1.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position.
- Select path through scan tool menus: "INTERACTIVE DIAGNOSIS/ SYSTEM SELECT/ TPMS/ CHASSIS/ MITSUBISHI/ SPECIAL FUNCTION.
- Select "TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR ID REGISTRATION".NOTE: Register all tire pressure sensor IDs within 5 minutes.
- Select "5TIRES PRES SNSR ID REGISTRATION (NORMAL SPARE TIRE)" or "4TIRES PRES SNSR ID REGISTRATION (COMPACT SPARE TIRE)" and start tire pressure sensor ID registration.
- Activate signals from the tire pressure sensors as follows:
- Clean tire pressure sensor location on wheel rim.
- Position TPMS Magnet (MIT46716) or a strong magnet as shown, and hold it there for 5 seconds or more. See Fig 2. The reed switch (incorporated in tire pressure sensor) will activate sensor to send tire pressure sensor ID.NOTE: If sensor is not activated, slide magnet until it is activated. If sensor is still not activated, move vehicle (turn the tire) by approximately half a turn of the tire. Then attempt to activate sensor.
- Using scan tool, ensure sensor is activated.
- Repeat steps 4- 6
for all sensor-fitted tires (including spare tire).NOTE: If the spare tire pressure sensor ID cannot be registered, bring the spare tire near one of the road tires. Then register the tire pressure sensor ID. There is no TPMS antenna for the spare tire, so this will help the road tire antenna receive a signal from the spare tire.NOTE: If the spare tire has been removed, always reposition valve as shown in Figure when remounting it to its storage position at the back of the vehicle. If valve is not positioned as shown, the system may incorrectly determine that the spare tire is a road tire.
- To check completion of sensor ID registration, select through scan tool menus: "INTERACTIVE DIAGNOSIS/ SYSTEM SELECT/ TPMS/ CHASSIS/ MITSUBISHI/ SPECIAL FUNCTION/ TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR ID CHECK". Ensure that the expected sensor IDs are registered.
- After tire pressure sensor ID registration, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove scan tool. Ensure warning light does not illuminate or flash.
NOTE:
The following operations may be started from any tire pressure sensor. The sensor ID registration has no order.
