Glow Plugs
NOTE:
Before trouble shooting glow plug system, check the following components for proper electrical connections and operation. Battery, ignition switch and starter, ignition relay, all fuses and 4 fusible links. In addition, use ohmmeter to ensure that control unit terminal 3 is connected to ground.
- If engine fails to start or is hard to start, check if glow plug indicator lamp lights with ignition on. If not, check indicator lamp for burned out bulb.
- If indicator lamp bulb is good, check water temperature sensor. Replace water temperature sensor if defective. If indicator lamp bulb and water temperature sensor are good, replace glow plug control unit.
- If glow plug indicator lamp lights with ignition on, check if charging lamp lights also. If not, check for loose terminal at alternator "L" terminal or open circuit.
- If charging lamp does not light, check glow plugs. Replace if necessary. If glow plugs are good, check glow plug relay No. 1, No. 2, and dropping resistors. If relays and dropping resistors are good, check glow plug control unit.
