System Spark Test

  1. Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position. On 6-cylinder engines, disconnect EFI fusible link and cold start valve. On 4-cylinder engines, harness connector to carburetor (200SX and Stanza) or fuel cut-off solenoid harness connector (Sentra and Pulsar) to cut off fuel supply to engine.
  2. Disconnect coil wire from distributor. Hold wire about 1/4" from engine block. Crank engine and check for sparks at wire-to-block gap.
  3. If regular strong sparks occur, the IC ignition system is okay and no further ignition checks are required. If no sparks occur, check air gap. If okay, proceed with tests that follow.
