Glow Control Unit

  1. To test pre-glow control, connect a test lamp to control unit. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to the "OFF" position for more than 1 minute, then turn ignition switch to "ON" position. Test lamp should remain lit for 2-7 seconds.
  2. To test after glow control, connect test lamp to control unit. See Figure . Disconnect "S" terminal from starter. Measure time the test lamp stays on, when the ignition switch is turned from the "START" position to "ON" position.
  3. When coolant temperature is above approximately 122°F (50°C), light should not light. Below approximately 68°F (20°C), light should stay on approximately 20-50 seconds. Between the 2 temperatures light should stay on approximately 20 seconds.
  4. To test glow indicator control, connect test lamp to control unit. See Figure . Test lamp should remain lit for approximately 1-7 seconds when ignition switch is turned from the "OFF" position to the "ON" position.
