Hood And Trunk Switch Input Signal Check

  1. Preliminary Check

    Turn ignition off and remove key. Close engine hood, trunk and all doors. SECURITY indicator light should be off. Open any door. SECURITY indicator light should flash in one-second intervals. If operation is as specified, hood switch is okay. If operation is not as specified, go to next step.

  2. Check Hood Switch Adjustment

    Adjust hood and trunk switch or engine hood as necessary. If hood or trunk switch adjustment is okay, go to next step.

  3. Check Hood or Trunk Switch input Signal

    Ensure ignition is off. Using DVOM, measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 27 (Pink/Black wire) or No. 38 (Red/Black wire) at Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) harness connector. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Battery voltage should be present only when engine hood is closed. With engine hood open, reading should be zero volts. If voltage is as specified, hood switch is okay. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.

  4. Check Hood, Trunk Switch

    Disconnect hood switch harness connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity between hood or trunk switch terminals. Ensure continuity is present only when hood or trunk switch is released. If continuity is not as specified, replace hood or trunk switch. If continuity is as specified, check for open or short in circuit between hood or trunk switch and SECU. Check hood switch ground circuit. Repair as necessary.
