NOTE: If Nissan CONSULT-II scan tool is not available, go to step 2).

  1. Check Door Lock/Unlock Switch Input Signal

Using Nissan CONSULT-II scan tool, check door lock/unlock switch status (LOCK SW DR/AS and UNLK SW DR/AS) in DATA MONITOR mode. See DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Scan tool should indicate switch status LOCK SW DR/AS ON with door lock/unlock switch turned to LOCK position and UNLK SW DR/AS ON with door lock/unlock switch turned to UNLOCK position. If status is not as specified, go to next step. If status is as specified, switch is okay.
  2. Check Door Lock/Unlock Switch Input Signal

Turn ignition off. Disconnect 42-pin Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) harness connector M-39. See Figure . Check for continuity between ground and terminal No. 23 (Gray wire) of 42-pin SECU harness connector M-39. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Continuity should exist when door lock/unlock switch is in LOCK position and not exist when switch is in NEUTRAL/UNLOCK position. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, go to step  4 .
  3. Check for continuity between ground and terminal No. 35 (Purple/Red wire) of 42-pin SECU harness connector M-39. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Continuity should exist when door lock/unlock switch is in UNLOCK position and not exist when switch is in NEUTRAL/LOCK position. If continuity is as specified, door lock/unlock switches are okay. If continuity is not as specified, go to next step.
  4. Check Door Lock/Unlock Switch

Disconnect door lock/unlock switch harness connectors. Check for continuity between specified switch terminals while operating switch. Verify continuity is as specified. See DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH TEST  table. Replace switch if continuity is not as specified. If continuity is as specified, check switch ground circuit (Black wire). Check for open or short in Purple/Red or Gray wire between switch and 42-pin SECU harness connector M-39. Repair as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
