DTC Confirmation Test
Malfunction is detected when proper pulse signal from intake valve timing control position sensor if not sent to PCM while engine is running at specified speed. Possible causes are:
- Intake valve timing control position sensor circuit open or shorted.
- Defective intake valve timing control position sensor.
- Accumulation of debris on signal pick-up portion of camshaft.
Connect Scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select DATA MONITOR. Start engine and run at 2000 RPM for at least 15 seconds. If a first trip DTC is retrieved, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If DTC is not set, problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
