Removal and Installation: Removal

- Switch 4WD shift switch to 2WD and set transfer assembly to 2WD.
- Remove the drain plug and gasket. Drain the fluid. Refer to "TRANSFER FLUID ".
- Remove A/T undercover using power tools.
- Remove center exhaust tubes and muffler. Refer to "REMOVAL ".
- Remove front and rear propeller shafts. Refer to
"REMOVAL

" (rear).CAUTION: Do not damage spline, sleeve yoke or rear oil seal when removing the rear propeller shaft.NOTE: Insert a plug into rear oil seal after removing rear propeller shaft.
- Remove A/T bolts. Refer to "COMPONENTS ".
- Position two suitable jacks under A/T and transfer assembly.
- Remove A/T crossmember. Refer to
"COMPONENTS
".WARNING: Support A/T and transfer assembly using two suitable jacks while removing A/T crossmember.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the following:
- ATP switch
- 4LO switch
- Wait detection switch
- Transfer control device
- Disconnect each air breather hose from the following. Refer to
"AIR BREATHER HOSE ".
- Transfer control device
- Breather tube (transfer)
- Remove transfer to A/T and A/T to transfer bolts.WARNING: Support transfer assembly using suitable jack while removing it.
- Remove transfer assembly.CAUTION: Do not damage rear oil seal (A/T).
