Electronic Control System: Notes

The RE4F04 automatic transaxle has 2 self-diagnostic systems. The first is a emission-related On Board Diagnostic (OBD-II) system performed by the TCM in combination with the Engine Control Module (ECM). Malfunctions are indicated by Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) and are stored as Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in ECM memory, but not in TCM memory. The second is the TCM self-diagnostic system. Malfunctions are stored in TCM memory and are indicated by O/D OFF indicator light for 2001 models and 2002 Quest. For 2002 models except Quest, TCM memory malfunctions are indicated by A/T CHECK indicator light. Most detected TCM items are overlapped with OBD-II self-diagnostic items.
