Side AIR Bag Module

  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Remove appropriate side air bag module from vehicle and place it on a clean, dry, work bench with deployment side facing upward. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Firmly secure Air Bag Module Bracket (J41246) in a vise. Drill two 0.256" (6.5 mm) diameter holes in air bag module bracket at position shown in illustration. See Fig 1 .
  3. Secure side air bag module to air bag module bracket using two 6 mm nuts. See Fig 2 . Metal portion of air bag module should face down.
  4. Connect Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381) to side air bag module connector using Deployment Tool Adapter (J44230). Position a fully charged 12-volt battery at least 16 feet (4.9 m) from side air bag module. Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal.
  5. Ensure deployment tool power lamp glows Green. If deployment tool power lamp glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck lamp. Ensure no one is within 16 feet (4.9 m) of deployment area. Press deployment tool button to deploy side air bag module.
